The problem asked in examinations such as IITJEE not only tests your knowledge of physics but also your skill in solving problems just like an engineer is called to solve workspace problems.
You need to have a clear mastery of the concepts of physics besides you should have the power to visualize a given physical situation in its entirety.
Only then you can hope to succeed in such a high level entrance test. A good analogue of problem solving in physics is the process of completing a jigsaw puzzle, in which every piece is to be put in its proper position .
Just as you cannot build a jigsaw by putting every piece in its correct position the first time through you cannot hope to solve a physics problem by simply writing down the correct equations and applying correct reasoning the first time through.
You need to visualize the whole problem in the mind first and then go for steps required to get the answer.
Generally the problem solving in the physics can be broken down in the following four steps: • Visualizing the physical situation described and identifying the known and unknowns • Designing a strategy • Working on that strategy • Checking the resulting |
